Rare white lion dies in Karachi Zoo
KARACHI: A rare breed of the white lion has died in Karachi Zoo as he was sick for the last 20 days.
Karachi Metropolitan Spokesman Ali Hassan Sajid confirmed the death of the lion and said that the lion had been ill for the last 13 days and was suffering from Pulmonary TB which was being treated by veterinarians but he could not recover and died due to his illness at 11:00 AM on Wednesday.
The Karachi Zoo administration told the media that died rare white lion was imported from Africa in 2012 and was 15 years old.
The zoo administration also said that the rare breed of a white lion was brought at that time by paying a hefty sum of Rs10 million.
A team of veterinarians performed an autopsy on the lion and collected details about illness and death. According to veterinarians, the lion also had pneumonia and the lion’s lungs had stopped working.
Administrator Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that he was saddened to learn of the death of a rare breed of a white lion at Karachi Zoo as white tigers are rare in the world.
“Strict disciplinary action will be taken against the zoo management if any negligence is found after the cause of death of the lion has come to light, he said.
In 2012, a new glass enclosure was built on the occasion of the arrival so that the citizens visiting Karachi Zoo can fully see the lion. TF Report
