PM to arrive in New York tonight
NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will arrive in New York today (Monday) after attending the final rites of Great Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II in London.
Representing Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif will attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN headquarters in New York starting on 20th September, a day after he reaches New York.
On the same day, he will address a summit meeting on education reforms, which will also consider how to deal with the pandemic’s negative impact on education.
The premier will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, other members of the cabinet, and senior government officials.
On the sidelines of the UNGA session, the Prime Minister will have important bilateral meetings with the leaders of other countries and heads of different international organizations, IFIs, and philanthropic
organizations.
On September 20, Mian Shehbaz will attend the reception of the Secretary General of the United Nations and will meet French President Emmanuel Macron. On the same day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also have meetings with the Chancellor of Austria and the President of Spain, and Finnish President Sauli Niinisto. The premier will also meet the President of the European Union Council, Charles Michael.
The PM will participate in the Global Food Security Summit, jointly organized by Senegal, the President of the African Union, European Union and the United States, and closed-door leaders gathering on COP-27, bringing together select world leaders to discuss climate change.
The PM will meet IMF MD Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank President David Mills on September 21.
Apart from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister will also have a bilateral meeting with Iran’s President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi. The PM Shehbaz Sharif will host a luncheon in honor of the President of Turkey and his wife on September 21 while the PM will attend a dinner hosted by US President Joe Biden on the same night.
On September 22, he will meet Microsoft owner Bill Gates and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres in his office.
He will have meetings with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kashida, and Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Battle. He will also meet Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaqoob
Premier Shehbaz Sharif will address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 23. He will highlight the sufferings of more than 33 million countrymen in the wake of flash floods induced by climate change.
The Prime Minister will also meet Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai. The prime minister will also interact with prominent American newspapers and media during the visit. TF REPORT
